Join us in Rwanda!
AHE offers a bi-annual trip for professionals seeking to experience Rwandan culture in an authentic, non-touristy way. Each trip has a slightly different focus, and is always combined with AHE’s core trauma healing and prevention clinical work. Ideal participants include investors and entrepreneurs interested in supporting economic development initiatives in Rwanda and other parts of the Great Lakes Region of East Africa, as well as mental health volunteers including social workers, counselors and medical personnel. Major donors and sponsors are encouraged to join each trip with AHE staff and board representation.
Over the course of two weeks your life will undoubtedly change, as you witness the work that AHE and other incredible organizations are doing to help end the cycle of trauma. There is much more to Rwanda than the Genocide of 1994, and you will see an intimate side of the beautiful nation that includes world-renowned wildlife (see options to visit Nungwye forest birds and chimps, Virunga Mountain Gorillas, Akagera Game Park), some of the best coffee and tea you will ever taste (AHE is building out a coffee and tea tour in partnership with organic and fair trade farms in the Western province), and highly-skilled artisans who will offer first-hand glimpses into their weaving, pottery and jewelry-making. Additionally, and depending on your budget, you will have the opportunity to visit nearby destinations such as a safari in Kenya, hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, exploring the island life and fascinating history of Zanzibar, and more!
AHE Founder and Executive Director, Sara Stender (who lived in Rwanda in 2009 and has returned many times since) will be leading the group through Rwanda. Each trip lasts between 9-15 days. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with a letter of interest to be considered for one of the next trips. For an estimated budget, download the AHE Trip Expenses Worksheet.
